Project tasks

task 1:

Design requirements of the integrated system “Monitraffic”

Task 1 consists of identifying the current practices and gaps in route planning and maritime traffic monitoring issues. This information is used to define the basic design requirements for the integrated system for maritime traffic monitoring and surveillance.

task 2:

Characterisation of maritime traffic and safe routes for ships

Task 2 develops statistical models and algorithms to characterise the normal behaviour of the maritime traffic and operational profiles of merchant ships and specific fishing trips, which will reduce the uncertainty of the current marine operations.

task 3:

Methods for anomaly detection

Task 3 is devoted to the development of unsupervised tools for maritime anomaly detection that can provide alerts on abnormal behaviour of merchant ships and fishing vessels.

task 4:

Integrated system for maritime traffic characterisation and monitoring

Task 4 consists of developing an integrated system for maritime traffic characterisation and monitoring in order to provide information on the safe routes for the maritime traffic off the continental coast of Portugal. Additionally, Task 4 incorporates the system testing with real-time AIS/radar fused data from the Portuguese coastal VTS.
